Find Peace with Food

A non-diet dietitian offering a safe and non-judgmental space for healing

About Me

My name is Ethan Shafran. I am a registered dietitian and certified intuitive eating counselor. Currently, I manage the partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient nutrition programs at The Renfrew Center in New Jersey. I specialize in working with clients who have eating disorders (AN, BN, ARFID, OSFED) as well as other nutrition-related issues such as diabetes and GI concerns. I pride myself on being a HAES-focused (Health at Every Size) and weight-inclusive dietitian utilizing evidence-based research to advocate for non-judgmental health care. I promote the mindset that all foods fit and focus on working with clients to find more compassion for themselves in their food choices and body image struggles. I have experience working with clients of all ages and gender identities, with the majority of ages between 12 to 65.

I have previously worked in diverse community-based settings teaching nutrition and collaborating with local schools to build an environment that promotes a positive relationship with food and models the relationship between food and health.

Additionally, I have a background in cooking professionally and teaching cooking, which allows me to bring the knowledge of a chef to the role of a dietitian to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the complexity of food.

I provide a holistic therapeutic approach to nutritional counseling. Through collaboration, we will identify tangible steps to facilitate change with a personalized and sustainable plan to reduce food and body image judgments. This includes creating a roadmap for how you will change your relationship with food involving education on cooking, shopping, and sourcing. Acceptance and love inside our bodies and minds enables us to be the best version of ourselves.

Change Your Relationship with Food

Telehealth Services Offered

  • During the initial session, I will do a full assessment to get to know you and learn about your health history. We will begin to explore your past experiences and current relationship with food and body image. Together, we will work to find a path of support that is best for you, set goals, and create a roadmap to fit your individual needs.

  • During these sessions, I will support you through the challenges you are facing while unlearning old patterns and developing effective coping mechanisms. This includes but is not limited to ensuring adequate nutrition, exploring body cues such as hunger and fullness, increasing diet variety, incorporating joyful movement, and creating a positive relationship with food.

This process includes journaling as a means of self-reflection, which will occur both during the session and on your own time.

  • This service is to provide emotional coaching during meals. It can be an opportunity to work on specific food exposures. Meal support services are an adjunct service for current clients already receiving nutritional counseling.
